Lord
has chosen his disciple
In
our discussion on Lord Hanuma's journey to Lanka, we will try to understand the
point why Lord Rama gave his ring only to Hanuma when he knows there are various
search parties going to various corners, especially since none of the search
parties have seen Mother Sita! No
one knows how she looks or how she talks! In
the entire congregation, besides Lord Rama, the only person who knows Mother
Sita is Lakshmana. However,
Lord Rama did not send Lakshmana, instead he gave his ring to Hanuma!
Let us understand this point.
Lord
Rama gave his ring to Hanuma who is part of the search team heading towards
South. The commander of this team
is Angada. Commander Angada is
young but he has two great men in his team, Jambavan and Hanuman!
After
coming to know from Sampati that for sure Sita is in Lanka, all the monkey
warriors started thinking on how to reach Lanka.
Lanka is about 100 yojanas distance (250 miles) from the coast where they
are standing. Jambavan suggests
that everyone in the team speak about their capacity.
One
says he can jump only 10 yojanas (25 miles), another says he can jump only 20
yojanas, finally when it comes to Angad he accepts honestly that he can jump 100
yojanas but he will be too tired to return back!
Now the only one who is quiet and silent is Hanuma!
Look
at the honesty of all warriors. They
are not boasting about their capacity. They
know he who says he can go all the way to Lanka is going to get a good promotion
in the army, but they are honest! Vanity
is not there. They are speaking out
what is their capacity when it comes to Lord's work.
It is Lord's work that they are doing. All the devotees are expressing
what they could do. They are honest in their approach and capacity.
We
should also be the same when it comes to Lord's work.
Over estimating and over doing beyond one’s own capacity will bring
misery to the mind and restlessness in the
life!
Then
Jambavan reminds Hanuma of his capacity and requests him to undertake the
journey of going and returning back from Lanka.
Hanuma
doesn't know his capacity. Lord
Rama knows Hanuma's capacity; so does Jambavan.
But Lord Rama doesn't remind Hanuma about his hidden capacity. Instead of
reminding, he just gives the ring. Even though Lord knows the disciple from the beginning, it is
the Guru like Jambavan who has to
advise the hidden potential of Hanuman!
That is why Lord gave the ring and kept silent.
If Lord did not know Hanuma's hidden potential he wouldn't have given the
ring!
We
are all blessed by that kind of ring; the education, the hidden potential within
ourselves! It is the Guru who reminds us about the potential and advises us to
undertake the journey of finding the happiness (Sita).
By
giving his ring to Hanuma, Lord had chosen
the right ambassador to fulfill his mission!
Let us now look at Hanumanji's great qualities which made him the
deserved person to fulfill Lord's mission.
By
killing Vali and restoring the throne to Sugriva,
Lord Rama fulfilled his vow to
Sugriva. Now it is Sugriva's turn
to keep his side of the promise. He
has to help Lord Rama in his search for Mother Sita.
Sugriva says that after the rainy season is over he will despatch search
parties. But Sugriva forgets his
promise! He was happy to get
his kingdom back. He completely forgets Lord.
He was happily spending time in his palace while Lord Rama, who helped
him to gain his kingdom, is mourning for the loss of Sita.
One
should never forget his duties towards Lord! The Lord who helped in restoration
of one’s own happiness. One should always hold the sense of gratitude in his
bosom.
Lord
Rama asks Lakshmana to go and remind Sugriva about his promise.
He also advises Lakshmana not to get angry.
He advises Lakshmana to be calm and peaceful when talking to Sugriva. But
Lakshmana ignored his brother's advice.
Lakshmana
was fuming with anger by the time he reached Sugriva's court! Lakshmana is known
for his temper! He might even kill
Sugriva for not keeping his promise. Sugriva
was so scared that he hides inside his bedroom and sends his near-naked wife
Tara to speak to Lakshmana. Tara is
said to be the most beautiful woman. That is also the reason why Vali has
abducted her! Lakshmana has taken a
vow that he will not look at women!
Now
Lakshmana couldn't think clearly, because it is
half naked woman Tara, who is said to be the most beautiful among the
women in the kingdom, standing in front of him! He was unable to speak to Tara. He gets confused. He gives a
stern warning to Sugriva and returns back.
Now you can clearly see Lakshmana's inability in handling the
situation when it is a half naked woman who is standing in front of him.
Sugriva
is deceitful, he used his wife to escape from Lakshmana's anger.
Whereas
look at the circumstances of Lanka! Ravana
is more deceitful than Sugriva. Moreover, Lanka is full of beautiful women who are stark
naked. You will come to know that
when you further read Sundarkand. So if Lakshmana went to Lanka then he wouldn't
have been able to fulfill the mission. Lakshmana has two problems - one his anger, and the other his
inability to think clearly when thrown into unwanted situations.
That
is why Lord Rama did not send Lakshmana to Lanka. It is Hanuma who can keep calm under extreme circumstances. It
is Hanuma who knows how to deal with bad people.
It is Hanuma who doesn't waver when looking eye to eye at a naked woman.
Also
if you see it is Hanuma who was able to advise Sugriva that he should fulfill
his part of the promise. Hanuma
knows his duties and responsibilities and he was able to skillfully remind his
master about his promise. Sugriva
is above the rank of Hanuma but Hanuma was able to talk sense to his master!
Same is the case in Lanka, where Ravana is above the rank of all.
Indeed, Ravana has his brother Vibheshana as a counsel, but still it is
Hanuma who was able to talk to him!
So
you see Hanuma is the right person for
the mission. Hence Lord Rama gave his ring to Hanuma. Lord has chosen the right disciple!
